PhD student Kerstin Herdman has identified another Psalter from Medingen at the Beinecke Library, Yale, MS 1194. She writes: “The Beinecke fragment has 81 folia and begins in the middle of the psalter. Any calendar or texts outside the psalms have been lost and the quires are currently bound out of order. The illumination style, abbreviations, use of banderoles, and small amounts of staff-less musical notation all look similar to other Medingen manuscripts. In particular, the trumpeter in Beinecke MS1194 looks very similar to the trumpeter in BE1 on f.148r. (cf. illustration in Ulrike Hascher-Burger, Verborgene Klänge.” Beate Braun-Niehr who has worked on the Berlin Medingen Psalter has since confirmed the connection to the Medingen Psalters. The Beinecke Library is preparing for the digitisation of more of their medieval manuscripts, so keep your eyes peeled!
